Cocci

This SEM micrograph shows a bloom of Cocci bacteria. Cocci bacteria are generally spherical in shape, and a colony looks like a group of little marbles. Cocci type bacteria have been associated with a variety of human infections. Common infections attributed to Cocci are urinary tract infections, staphylococci infections, and toxic shock syndrome. Some types of food poisoning are also attributed to Cocci type bacteria.
